Om Sidsel



Sidsel was born in Vesterbro, Denmark but grew up in Albertslund, Denmark. Since then she had been settled in Greece, France, Sweden and is now settled in Nørrebro, Denmark. Sidsel is graduated in International Development Studies and Cultural Encounters from Roskilde  University. During her studies she has problem-oriented dealt with relations concerning immigrants, asylum and integration politics. She has also dealt with migration, gender, ethnicities, nationality and identity. Sidsel has worked with integration and intercultural issues on a NGO level and has since then been a co-founder of the critical gender magazine called Consume.

Previous employment:

  • Project worker at Salaam DK (2008-2009)
  • Co-founder and editor at the critical gender magazine Consume (2008-2011)

Education and competences:

  • Master in Cultural Encounters and International Development Studies (2004-11)
  • Exam in French at the Institute Langue francaise i Paris.
  • Sidsel has written her thesis on the cultural concept in Danish integration and immigration politics. In relation to this she has researched the conceptions on Danishness and the "otherness". Furthermore she has analytical and problem-oriented dealt with conditions regarding the war in Afghanistan, trafficking and women in global care industry, equality in development work, orientalism and conceptions on Islam in Danish literature and art.
  • Sidsel has experience within both theoretical and practical concrete problems that involves nationality, ethnicity, language, gender, religion, status and race.
  • Sidsel had experience with analysing and understanding the multi-cultural and multi-lingual society from different scientific approaches and insights.
  • Through her job a an editor on the magazine Consume she has experience with development of ideas, project management and fundraising.
